Black Berkey Water Filters Review

Some of you know my story about how I first found the Black Berkey water filters. Others don’t, so here it is.

I bought several pitcher brands from the grocery store because my tap water tasted horrible and I already knew a few chemicals were in city water.

What I did not know until later was how long the leftover list can be after the plant is done — chlorine byproducts, metals from pipes, and other traces that show up in utility reports. The cheap filter barely moved chlorine and a couple of metals. When I say reduce, I mean barely.

How I Found Black Berkey Water Filters

Once I had an inkling, I kept reading. It was not one website or one doctor. It was dozens of researchers and shows talking about treated tap water at home, not a village well.

Dumping chlorine into the supply is how utilities keep treated water stable in the pipes. Residual chlorine is still in the glass, and chlorine itself is a chemical many people do not want to drink all day. It also does not address every leftover on the report.

My Review of the Black Berkey Elements

Paperwork is comforting. Taste is the test I care about at the sink.

The older Black element write-ups cited state and EPA-accredited laboratories and university work. Always match the claim to the PDF you link. Do not paste “NSF 53” unless that listing is still live for the exact element you sell.

I ordered my first set for a Travel Berkey in 2006. I told my wife what I had read. She said go for it. We primed them as instructed and ran water through a few times before we drank it.

Going from tap or a grocery pitcher to that first chamber was obvious. No pool smell. We drank more water because it was easier to finish a glass. That is the “I feel better” part — hydration, not a medical claim.
