Many people ask this question every day on their quest for clean water. I’m sure you’ve seen advertised all over the TV certain water filters and how great they are.
I’m sure you’ve also seen shows like The Biggest Loser where filters are pitched as the best thing ever.
I’m not going to sit here and bash any particular companies. I’m sure you can figure it out.
All you have to do is visit your local convenience store to find a water filter solution that will supposedly provide clean water for you and your family.
Some of these companies brand themselves as the number one household water filter system that makes water cleaner. Do they really make water that much cleaner?
What To Look For When Researching Water Filters
If you look on their data performance sheet, which shows what is reduced and the percentages, the information is staggering compared to other systems.
For instance, copper is only reduced by 80%. Mercury is only possibly reduced by 89%. Chlorine is reduced up to 96%.
But that is it! These filters don’t remove anything else. How can a product claim to produce clean water when it barely filters anything out?
Another cheap water pitcher filter I examined reduces chlorine, some heavy metals, some cysts, pharmaceuticals and some industrial pollutants.
What they don’t have is a sheet telling you what exactly they filter out, the percentages and what independent company did their official testing.
Each of these water filters need to be replaced every two to three months which is a hassle and heave on the pocketbook.
What Is Your Best Option When Shopping For Water Filters?
So what is the alternative to having truly clean water? You need a filter system that is very powerful, no need for frequent filter changes, durable, proven and tested and completely safe drinking water.
Here are some things you need to make sure are filtered out of your water.
- Pathogenic bacteria to non-detectable levels such as E.coli and other cysts and parasites
- Trihalomethanes removed to non detectable levels such as Bromoform and
- Radiologicals removed to non detectable levels such as Radon 222
- Inorganic minerals and VOCs such as Benzene, Chlorine, MTBE and o-Xylene
- Heavy metals including lead, mercury, aluminum, cadmium, Chromium and Copper
- Nitrates, nitrites, rust, silt and sediment
- The filter SHOULD NOT remove the healthful and nutritional minerals the body needs.
You also want it very clearly to state they have been tested by State & EPA accredited laboratories to exceed EPA & ANSI/NSF (Std. 53). It would even help to know which states and labs did the testing.
Your path to clean water is through a filtering system with all the credentials listed above. Don’t opt for the filters that remove very little while taking your money every two months.
My Bottom Line Thoughts on This Subject
I highly recommend the only water filter system that I’ve found to protect my family the best from contaminated water.
It’s the Berkey water purification systems which you can find here.
